About two weeks ago I was able to go see 5 Seconds of Summer live in Denver, Colorado. Last year I flew to California with my two best friends in order to see them live in Irvine. Both times Hey Violet was one of their opening acts. I'm guessing this happened because Hey Violet was the first band that 5 Seconds of Summer signed to their own record label, Hi or Hey Records. I'll be honest by saying that I wasn't into Hey Violet at first listen a year ago. However, I was pleasantly surprised when Hey Violet took the stage this year.
Hey Violet released their newest EP "Brand New Moves" on Aug. 16 and the first time I heard it was the night of Aug. 24 when they took the stage at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Songs like "Brand New Moves" stood out like a sore thumb in their setlist. The new EP provided Hey Violet with a newer, more mature sound that almost transformed them into a completely different band, in the best way.
If you have heard of Hey Violet, then I'm sure you know what I mean. If you haven't listened to them yet, then this EP is the perfect place to start. It's only about 18 minutes, but it's a pretty great listen regardless. I seriously haven't stopped listening to this since I saw them.
